Barbie goes to Space!

When I was kid growing up I had a couple of Barbies, but apparently these dolls don’t move on their own so I lost interest pretty fast.  Sorry Barbie, but Teddy Ruxpin had a one up on you, he actually talks to me.

Mattel has always been able to adapt with the times, whether it be their Barbies or Hot Wheels. This time Mattel has collaborated with the US Space & Rocket Center where you can own your very own silver label doll and learn about the Space Shuttle Systems, life aboard the Space Station, and how to sleep and eat in space.  The doll also comes with a space camp suit, t-shirt, helmet and jacket.

These limited edition Barbies are available on July 4th.

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:

  • Act of Nostalgia and Mix-Mash. Taking an iconic figure for decades like Barbie and mixing it with Space exploration shows how Barbie can transcend over time to be a classic and not just a fad.
  • Limited edition and really expensive. There’s a pre-order for these dolls and considering it’s a silver label doll I would imagine it’s more expensive than my Project Runway Barbie.
